WMS Virtual Band (April 24, 2020)
Since we can't play together in person, we will do it online! Please check out all of the instructions below and submit a recording to be a part of the FIRST ever WMS Virtual Band.
We will be recording the WMS Fight Song and feature 7th and 8th Grade WMS Band members. There are many challenges to pull off a large project like this successfully, so please read all of the instructions before getting started. Also don't forget to check out an awesome video by the Cobb County School System to see what the finished video could look like.

How to be in the WMS Virtual Band
  • Download the sheet music below and practice. When you are ready, record yourself performing with the Metronome set on 120 Beats Per Minute.
  • Record in landscape mode with a quality camera & microphone.
  • Use headphones to listen to metronome while you record, so that we cannot hear the metronome
  • Percussion: We understand that you may not have access to certain instruments at home. If you have the correct instrument at home, please choose that part. If not, feel free to perform on similar instruments or simply be creative!
  • Recordings are DUE no later than Monday, May 4th.  Recordings should be submitted on SeeSaw. Please make sure to submit quality performances.

Recording Tips
It is very important that your recording both looks and sounds great. Please take the time to experiment with your recording setup BEFORE making your recording.
  • Make sure to record in a quiet room. Any extra sounds or noises could be heard in the performance.
  • Use the best microphone/camera possible. Smartphones can work well if setup correctly. If using a smartphone, make sure to figure out where the microphone is on the phone (usually on the bottom).
  • Make sure that the microphone is not covered up. This will muffle or distort the sound.
  • Experiment with microphone placement. If your mic is too close it could distort the sound. If it is too far away, the sound may not be clear. Brass: Do NOT play with your bell pointed directly at the microphone. Percussion: Do NOT place the microphone on the same surface as your instrument.
  • Tune your instrument before performing.
  • Use headphones to listen back after each practice recording. The recording setup may take longer than recording.
  • Reminder: You MUST play with a metronome (120 bpm) on while you record. Otherwise your recording will not sync up with other's recordings. Free metronome available here: https://www.google.com/search?q=metronome

Fight Song Reminders
  • Don't worry about the Roll-Off at the beginning. Only Percussion will be on video for the roll-off. Start playing where your music starts.
  • Shout and gesture (fist into the air) during the drum break at Measure 41.
    • W-M-S (drums) W-M-S (drums)
    • Purple, Gold. Purple, Gold
