About the WMS Band Program
The Whitthorne Middle School band from Columbia, Tennessee has a rich tradition that dates back to the schools inception in 1937. The WMS Band makes consistent appearances at Concert Performance Assessment and is very active and visible in the community. The WMS Band program consists of about 230 students from 6th to 8th grade. It is the primary feeder program for the award winning Columbia Central High School Band. The Whitthorne Band has many performing ensembles including an 8th grade band, 7th grade band, 6th grade band, 6th grade jazz band, percussion ensemble, and 2 select audition groups: the Tiger Jazz Cats and the WMS Honor Band. The Whitthorne Band also has a vibrant private lesson studio in which around 65 students are enrolled. The band is directed by Mr. Cord Martin and Mr. Brian Webster.
